ICE-RS cycle 2006-11-30

Summary

This cycle marks the real beginning of ICE-RS project. We will start the project off with development tasks identified in the ICE project for ICE-RS and the administrative tasks so the exciting work can begin, such as configuring the server and contacting potential ICE-RS pilot users etc.

Velocity tracking

The ICE project has detailed tracking data on the estimated effort (in an abstract unit called "Work Units") on each task. The number of work-units completed per fortnightly cycle is a reasonable indication of the amount of work we can expect to complete in a cycle, if we take into account holidays and sick leave etc.

In the ICE project we would cap the number of work units in the beginning of a cycle at 60, this allowed for unforeseen tasks throughout the cycle. The average number of work units per cycle in the ICE project was 92 (since the cycle ending 2005-08-23). Given this number, and the change in dynamics for the ICE-RS project we predict that this cycle will see 60 work units completed (capped at 40).

Predicted work units: 60

Overview of new tasks

  • Begin work on using python for producing XHTML from the open document XML

  • ICE open source site to be a live Trac and Subversion repository

  • Investigative tasks for ICE-RS such as:

    • Contact potential pilot users

    • Contact USQ research support staff

About the cycle notes

The cycle notes are used to summarize the outcomes of the completed cycle and provide stakeholders with an overview of the tasks for the next cycle. They are also used to raise any issues for discussion and provide other information for those who are unable to attend the meetings. Specific information on tasks to be completed are available in the ticketing system, see below.
