Toolbar and templates
The ICE toolbar
The ICE toolbar has been developed as an OpenOffice.org extension and a Microsoft Word add-in. The purpose of the toolbar is to apply the ICE styles quicker and easier, this has been achieved by the creation of a toolbar that not only uses identical icons in OpenOffice.org and Word but also uses the same short cuts on all operating systems and word processors. The functionality of toolbar also includes some “smarts” to assist with the creation of more structurally correct content.
Download
The ICE toolbars are still being developed however, they are usable. Feel free to download and try them out, feedback is appreciated via the contact us page form or mailing list.
How the ICE toolbar works
The toolbar and templates work using ICE styles, a standard set of style names, the toolbar is designed to apply the styles setup in the template using a set of rules.

Templates
An ICE template is a basic Word or OpenOffice document which contains ICE styles.
ICE styles have short names generally, like 'h1' for a top-level heading, and li2b for a second level bulleted list item. The set of style names have been designed to distinguish them from those that ship by default with major word processors.
For example
ICE style | Word /OpenOffice style |
h1 | Heading 1 |
li1b | List item, level 1, bullet |
ICE styles may be applied with an ICE Toolbar or via keyboard shortcuts, see the Toolbar Reference Guide. Because these styles are simple, the conversion to html is made easier.
Download either an OpenOffice.org template (Default.odt) and/or Word template (Default.doc) into the templates directory you just added. Change these files or add others into the template directory as required.
