ICE Demos

Work is currently be carried out to develop ICE as a service. Below is a list of short demonstrations to show you the multiple ways ICE can be used to convert your word processor document (either Word or OpenOffice.org) into XHTML and PDF.

Some of the demonstrations are using OpenOffice.org on Windows however, the process will be the same in Word or if you are using another operating system.

Note: The demonstrations are of the up and coming ICE version 2.0 and not of the 1.2 stable release.

OpenOffice.org to XHTML (view demo)
Using the ICE toolbar in OpenOffice.org Writer the document a converted into XHTML via the ICE application.
Publish to Wordpress from OpenOffice.org (view demo, or try it yourself)
Using the ICE toolbar this demonstration shows you how your document can be published to your blog directly from your word processor. In this example Writer is used to publish to the ICE blog using Wordpress (2.31).
Web service (view demo)
ICE can also be used as a web service, this demonstration shows you how a document can be posted to an ICE server which then returns a web page or a zip file.
Validation test (view demo)
A comparison is made between the quality of the XHTML produced by ICE with that produced by Word 2003 using http://w3.org HTML validator.
CML in ICE (view demo)
The demonstration shows how ICE uses Jmol as a plug-in to render a Chemical Markup Language (CML) file into HTML, PNG and SVG. When linked from a document using ICE the CML is displayed using the Jmol Applet in the HTML and as a 2D image in the PDF for print. We will be looking at automating in inserting and link the image later.
ICE in Moodle (view demo)
ICE as a service can be used by Moodle to render an ICE style word-processor document into HTML and PDF. Instead of ICE being the content management system (CMS) Moodle is, this means the author doesn't need ICE to render single documents in Moodle.
Add discussions using disqus.com (view example)
Dynamically add discussions to your HTML content using Disqus on any page with a single link.
