ICE at USQ

What is the Integrated Content Environment?

ICE is a simple way for lecturers to produce course materials for use in USQ's flexible delivery (Fleximode).

ICE Features

  • Automatic generation of high quality online and print versions of your documents from your desktop.

  • Automated backup and revision control - need to get back a version of a document from two months ago? We can do that.

  • Automated distribution of your content for the Distance and eLearning Centre to help you with formatting, proofreading and referencing.

  • Works with EndNote and Zotero reference management systems.

  • Annotate documents for collaborative authoring.

  • Include just about any content you can use on the web including audio, video and interactive multimedia.

ICE is not

  • A Moodle replacement - it supplies content for Moodle but is not for course delivery or student use.

  • An EASE replacement - EASE is a USQ system for assignment submission.

  • Magic! (You do have to work within some easy to follow guidelines.)

Which word processors

You can use one of the following.

  • Microsoft Word (any Windows or Mac version except Word 2008 on the Mac).

  • OpenOffice.org Writer (Windows and Linux)

  • NeoOffice Writer (Mac OS X)

We recommend one of the Writer applications

Because

  1. They are free.

  2. ICE works better with them than with Word.

  3. They are more like Microsoft Word than the new Word 2007, which has a confusing new interface.

But you can use Word if you want to.
